IRS Warns of New Email Scam

by | Feb 8, 2017 | Putting It Together |

The IRS has issued a warning regarding a new email scam that has been detected.  Cyber-criminals are sending out emails impersonating tax professionals.  This means that cybercriminals are pretending to be your tax preparer and are sending out emails requesting that you email your tax documents directly to them.  Don’t!  We provide a secure online tax portal for uploading information securely.  Our Partners, Associates and Staff will never request that you email your tax documents to our office unsecured.
In this era of increasing cyber-crimes, everyone must strengthen the security around emailing sensitive tax or personal information to our office.  As part of this critical effort all attachments emailed that contain sensitive tax or personal information should be sent to us using your secure online tax portal or by using our ShareFile secure upload option. Please note that both options require a username and password.  This will result in greater protection of your personal sensitive tax data.  We all need to work together to keep our private tax information secure.  We encourage you to use your tax portal; however, if you are unable to do so we can email you a secure link for ShareFile upon request.
If you receive a suspicious email or have any questions please call our office at 916.773.7053
